Starting from 1954, the company did a shift to kashihon manga (rental manga) with mostly jidaigeki/historical genre stories.

To understand this, we need to know two things. With the rise of the economy that occured after the beginning of the Korean War in 1950, the price of many products went high. The cost of a manga went from 10 yens to 100 yens. It was difficult for the kids. To still make the kids read and, of course, spend their parent's money, publishers used the rental system. The kids could rental one manga for 10 yens. After 10 rentals, it was possible to go back home with a manga of one's own choice.
Second, the end of the US occupation in Japan occured in April 1952. From then on, mangaka and publishers could draw and print manga about martial arts and historical/jidaigeki genre which were forbidden during the occupation. It became a new trend.

Hibari Shobô created 2 labels to published kashihon manga. The first one was Hibari no Manga Zenshû (ひばりの漫画全集) in January 1954. The second one was Chôhen Katsugeki Manga Bunko (長編活劇漫画文庫), in march 1955. Hibari no Manga Zenshû seems to continue until the end of the 1950s with more than 400 books, whereas Chôhen Katsugeki Manga Bunko stopped around 1956 with a little more than 60 releases.

Gogo from the blog yamadi99 stated the jidaigeki shift started with Hikan Yagyûshô (Hibari no Manga Zenshû #211), but as you can see earlier, Jirô Ôta's Kuntarô Chinyûki (Hibari no Manga label) already is a jidaigeki manga. But even without mentioning this one, Hikan Yagyûshô is not the first jidaigeki manga under the Hibari no Manga Zenshû label as we can see the cover of Jirô Komiya's Kinrei Majin (Hibari no Manga Zenshû #9) released in june 1954. And thanks to NDL website thumb images, I can now say the second release, Chinkara Suzu-hime (#2) is also a jidaigeki manga, by no one else than Jirô Ôta!
My guess is that Gogo did such a mistake by following the chronological order of answers from the NDL website. Hikan Yagyûshô is the first answer that appears under Manga Zenshû label and there is no number with it.

Of course, Hibari Shobô didn't only released jidaigeki stories under that label. There was also adventures, thriller and dramatic stories, even science-fiction and a focus on ballet. But even though there is a few exemples, it is not fully diverse before at least 300 books.

Sometimes, authors wrote a second part (or more) of their stories. It was similar to manga volume series we have nowadays.

Ryûko Musô Ken, Haruo Kano, Hibari Shobô, label Hibari no Manga Zenshû #270 + #278.

It's then in 1958 that a new shift happened. The company, using another name, Tsubame Shuppan, started publishing kashihon manga focused on horror genre with the Kaidan series.

Many manga artists made their debuts with Hibari Shobô's horror manga genre, including Shinichi Kôga, Gôseki Kojima, Miki Ibara, and Kôji Sugito. Using the name Tsubame Shuppan, Hibari Shobô created the Kaidan series. A year later, Hibari Shobô started releasing the All Kaidan series by using their own publisher name.
Even after the decline of kashihon manga by the end of the 1960s, the company decided to create labels (Hibari Comics, Hibari Hit Comics) and continued publishing original single-volume books, maintaining a strong presence in the horrific genre all throughout the 1970s.

Around the 1970s, they also published books related to early childhood education, mahjong and shôgi game.

After 1988, they ceased their activities, and closed in November 2004.
